Combined Breast and Bone Health Screening
As women age and approach menopause, hormonal changes (particularly declining estrogen levels) increase the risk of bone loss (osteopenia/osteoporosis) and breast changes. This combined screening package joins a 3D mammogram (with AI detection) and a DEXA bone density scan in a single, streamlined visit to our Naxxar clinic.

Preparation Guidelines
- No Deodorant/Lotions: Do not apply deodorants, powders, or creams to your breasts or underarms, as they can affect the mammogram X-rays.
- No Calcium Supplements: Do not take calcium supplements on the morning of your scan, as undigested tablets can affect DEXA spine readings.
- Clothing: Wear comfortable clothing without metal zippers, buttons, or snaps. A separate top and bottom is recommended.

Why is bone density checked alongside a mammogram?
Estrogen protects bones. When estrogen drops during menopause, bone density can decline rapidly without symptoms. Since both breast screening and bone checks become critical at this stage of life, combining them is highly convenient.
Is the bone density scan painful?
No. You lie flat and relaxed on a padded table for 6-8 minutes. The scanner arm passes over you with zero contact and zero pain.
Do I need a GP referral?
No referral is required for routine screening mammograms or screening bone density scans in women over 40.
