Do I need to have a full bladder for a transvaginal scan?
No, a transvaginal scan requires an empty bladder. You will be asked to empty your bladder immediately before the scan begins. This is because a full bladder would push the pelvic organs too far away from the internal probe, reducing image clarity.
Can I have this scan during my menstrual period?
Yes, a transvaginal scan can be performed at any stage of your menstrual cycle, including during your period. Bleeding does not affect the safety or clarity of the scan. If you feel uncomfortable, you may reschedule, unless the scan is urgent or specifically requested by your doctor to be done during bleeding.
