We assess the upper and lower urinary tracts to identify:

Pelvic Organs & Pre/Post-Void

- Pre-void and post-void residual bladder volume (checking for urinary retention)
- Uterus and ovaries (screening for fibroids, lining thickness, and cysts)
- Prostate gland size and shape (transabdominally in men)
Full Bladder Required
- Drinking Instructions: Please drink 500ml of plain water about 45 to 60 minutes before your scan time.
- Do Not Empty Bladder: Do not pass urine before your appointment. A full bladder is essential to act as an acoustic window and to evaluate bladder volume accurately.
- Fasting: No fasting is required; you may eat and drink normally.

How long does the urinary tract ultrasound take?
The scan takes around 20 minutes, including a brief break to empty your bladder for the post-void residual scan.
Can it diagnose kidney stones?
Yes. Ultrasound is highly sensitive at detecting kidney stones, especially those obstructing urine flow, as well as bladder stones.
